Pro Lighting Designer tip.
Neighbours light shining in my window. A typical example would be a security light shining into a bedroom window affecting your sleep. What can I do. It seems to be on a sensor but the sensor obviously goes off if an owl farts three streets away so is on most of the night.
Many people have other types of lights outside such as streetlamps or neon signs etc that are on all night. What should you do. A nuisance is a type of conduct that disturbs a neighbors use or enjoyment.
Glare from lights or lights shining into the windows of other properties would also be light trespass. The back of a neighbors property butts up to the channel that is across the street from me. See also section 102 of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act.
Light leaking through a window wont change his electric bill. Those ballasts put out x amount of wattage per hour regardless of where the light goes. No one wants the neighbors.
Perhaps suggest such a solution tactfully to your neighbour. Shining in the window just in case he decides to come home hes a beautiful man kinda hard to understand But hes the only good man that I know Wont you tell him for me. Seems in NSW you can stop noise pollution you can stop people burning off generating smoke you can stop people from pollution the water but we have no rights to stop intrusive light pollution and light trespass caused by neigbours who refuse to behave reasonably.
The most familiar example of it is a floodlight which illuminates a neighbors yard. Like noisiness light pollution is recognized as a nuisance by courts in most parts of the United States. Dont hesitate to ask your neighbor for their advice or opinion in solving the problem.
